Traveling has always been good for this wandering soul; a fact I learned on my first trip out of the country. Ever since then, I have looked for opportunities to see new people and places while gaining a wider perspective on life and the world. Recently, some amazing friends joined us for a trip to Texas and I for one was very excited.

My experience with the western part of the United States is very minimal. There was a road trip when I was a young lad but that was about it. Now that I’ve had a more proper experience of the lone star state, I am in love. The people were friendly and polite and all of the food was just incredible. The most captivating aspect of the state however was the landscape itself (pictured in this post).

The slow rolling fields were punctuated by beautiful, wind swept trees, sporadic cacti, and swaying grass. It was a simple land that drew you in by surprise. With constant exposure to grand and glorious, we can forget the beauty of simple. It doesn’t demand attention, it simply asks. Once we begin to notice it, we are drawn in to a slower time – a time that allows for contemplation. Once in this space we can fully appreciate and start to feel a calming sense occur over us. This is what Texas is to me: a land that has been tested time and time again, holding on to what it needs and nothing more. It’s a land that reminds us that so many unnecessary things clutter or lives and minds. Sometimes we need to remember that simple is beautiful.
