There’s no telling how a night will go. Sometimes the sleep doesn’t come because of the excitement tomorrow brings. Sometimes it’s the anxiety and worries of what could happen. Nights are filled with all sorts of possibilities and varying emotions – I think it’s one of the reasons creatives love it so much; there’s no telling what a night can hold. While exciting in concept, it’s an excitement that can ruin the next day should it be a work day. That being said, I’ve found a few things that can help alleviate the anxiety and worry of a night allowing us to save the excitement for the day.
1 – Go ahead and figure out what you are going to wear. A lot of a morning can be wasted on standing in front of your closet debating on what goes with what or what is the most comfortable. Take the five minutes to lay out an outfit and rest easy knowing you have regained those precious morning minutes.
2 – Find some positive things to remember. Perhaps it’s a good deed or the day, a bad behavior that you have kicked, a load of laundry that you have finally taken care of. Make sure to end your days with positivity and not worry. Remember, worrying often leads to no good. Put those worrying thoughts out of mind and replace them with those positive thoughts, tomorrow will be the time to tackle those problems.
3 – About an hour before bed, take the time to breathe. Relaxation is an obvious key to a good night but one we often can forget. We tend to promise ourselves that we relax but spend that time busying ourselves with this or that. You deserve time taken to breathe, relax, and not be busy. This could look like meditation, reading a book, or simply laying on your back and breathing. Whatever relaxing looks like to you, take the time to do so.
Life will always throw worries at you, it’s an unfortunate promise. What we must do is find healthy ways of dealing with them. We mustn’t allow the worries to take over our lives — especially at night. Night is our time to relax and recover, preparing for the day ahead. I hope these tips will help you all take back your nights.
