Today’s weather was a welcome change. The sun was shinning, the rain clouds vanished, and some how we experienced a high of 74 in January. I am just hoping that this forecasts a happier year ahead. There really is no need to talk about 2020 being bad. I’ll let the memes and news stories have that job. I know I struggled a lot this year. I had my low point during the height of quarantine and struggled constantly after that to find balance. I know many of us have similar stories and similar situations. What I’m saying is nothing new, or creative. I don’t want to spend the rest of this blog post talking about all the promises that are made at this time to our “new year, new me” selves. What I want to talk about is the strength we have all gained from this year.

Amongst the fires, political battles, and COVID, our brains were constantly bombarded with bad news on bad news. Instead of being able to call friends over and have a party to move past this negativity, we were forced to stay inside and deal with everything ourselves. It was a hard year and there’s really no guarantee that 2021 won’t come with bad news. What I can guarantee is that we can get through this no matter what. Time always has a way of keeping the world in check. Bad years are followed by good years and so the cycle repeats. I have found myself reading a lot of articles from World War II and have noticed this trend. Many people back then never really thought that the world would ever come back to normal. While the world did change after the war, normal soon returned as well. Times can be tough, but the people that survived it? Even tougher. Congratulate yourself on what you have overcome. Use this time to remember the lessons we learned: reach out to those we love, cherish the times we get to spend with people, and (most importantly) always make sure to wash your hands!
