It’s one of the most dangerous emotions and one of the easiest to fall into. I experience anger each morning driving amongst that glorious rush hour and people too busy staring at their phones to pay attention to the road or how to drive. I try not to let it get to me but sometimes I can’t help it; anger just seems to be present everywhere and more than happy to stay in our lives. Thinking on those who specialize in anger management, I easily see why they make thousands and are in constant demand. Whenever we try to deal with anger, it feels like wrestling a river.
Sometimes we give in and let those heinous waters wash over us, erupting on whoever or whatever is nearest. This is the true nature of anger: destruction. This can be in damage to things or people. Think about it, when we constantly get angry with someone we are wearing them down mentally and emotionally. In the end, we wind up hurting the ones we love and those relationships.
We need to find healthy ways to process and let go of our anger. Personally I find intense working out or taking deep breaths for at least five minutes my top two processes. Other times I find myself pacing around processing everything that has made me angry. Some of you might have other ways like painting or aggressive cleaning, that’s good! What you want to focus on when you are angry is taking that negative energy and finding a way to turn it into a positive. Take those angry currents and allow them to be peaceful streams beneficial to one’s self and others.
